Saina Nehwal (born 17 March 1990) is an Indian badminton player. Currently ranked number 6 in the world by Badminton World Federation,[1] Saina is the first Indian woman to reach the singles quarterfinals at the Olympics and the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championships. Saina Nehwal scripted history on June 21 2009, becoming the first Indian to win a Super Series tournament after clinching the Indonesia Open with a stunning victory over higher-ranked Chinese Lin Wang in Jakarta. Born in Haryana, she has spent all her life in Hyderabad.

Often confused with the ace tennis hearthrob Sania Mirza, Saina has created a mark for herself in the sports world with her consistent spectacular performances. Most recently(that’s yesterday)she has qualified for the quarter finals of the world badminton championships, currently underway in Hyderabad. This is inspite of her being diagnosed with chickenpox just two weeks before the championships. On behalf of all indians, I wish her great success and we all hope that she will win the championships.

Update: She didn’t make it to the semi-final.
