I have been reading blogs and forums since long and I had stumbled upon many blogs by chance. One of them was a blog about a particular school in Kuwait. It was hosted probably by an individual or a group of individuals who had perverted minds which was exclusively dedicated to slurring a certain community. I saw this blog approximately 3-4 years back. I thought these are sick people and would fade out eventually.
Today i was googling the above mentioned school to check their opening dates and i clicked on the first search result, to my dismay i found that those Inglorious Ba*!#&@#’s had parked their blog on a domain which resembled the school’s name. The content of the blog is racist, explicit and it is laced with the choicest of abuses, personal pictures of the students and so on. This is actually an utter invasion of privacy. Many students can hit upon this blog and this can corrupt their mindset towards a certain community. I have never studied in any of the Indian school’s in Kuwait so I really don’t know what those guys are talking about.
I don’t want to name this school. But i can give you a hint, it is an Indian school located in Jleeb. I hope that the school in question will request the ISP’s to blackout this domain in Kuwait at least. I am not bothered about the school’s reputation, but am more concerned about the young minds who may have access to such content.
Guys do you have any suggestions on stopping this virtual corruption of minds?

This character was created for television promos at the time of the launch of the music network Channel [V] in 1994. I still remember those crazy promos. It’s basically a take on Rajnikanth’s onscreen antics. The other characters(Mango Dolly,Rice Plate Reddy,Rowdy MBA,Locket Girl, Gun Powder…) in the film are supposed to be funny as well.I am definitely gonna watch this.

Quick Gun Murugun is an unlikely Superhero with Guntastic powers.
He is a sincere South Indian Cowboy who considers it his duty to serve
and protect. The movie revolves around mis-adventures of Quick Gun Murugun and his fight with his arch villain Rice Plate Reddy!

As part of exploring Kuwait, we drove by the streets of Rumaithiya, which is just a drive across the Fifth Ring signal from Salmiya.

The roads are very wide and the whole area is very airy unlike Salmiya. You can see a lot of greenery around. This place has a lot of government arabic schools around. There is a Kuwait Flour Mills Factory too.

The Rumaithiya Co-operative is also worth a visit. During it’s hey days it was an excellent place with a large variety of fruits and frozen food stuff.
Rumaithiya is part of the Hawalli Governorate. It is largely a Kuwaiti residential suburb.

British Airways, which has flown under a series of names in its history, celebrated its 90th anniversary on August 25 2009. The airline can trace its origins back to the time Air Transport & Travel Ltd (AT&T) embarked on its first flight – from London to Paris – on August 25 1919

This weeks pick for the Young Indians category is ‘Shashi Tharoor’. I personally feel India needs more people like him in the political stream, young, efficient, diligent, intellectual, articulate and much more.
Mundarath Shashi Tharoor (Malayalam: ശശി തരൂര്) (born 9 March 1956) is the Indian Minister of State for External Affairs and a member of the Indian Parliament from the Trivandrum constituency in Kerala. He served as the UN Under-Secretary General for Communications and Public Information between June 2002 and February 2007, during the term of Secretary-GeneralKofi Annan at the United Nations. In 2006, he was the official candidate of India for the office of United Nations Secretary-General, and came second out of seven official candidates in the race. Onam 2009 is on September 2, Wednesday. Every year my non-keralite friends ask me the legend behind Onam. It’s a bit of a long story, but still am sharing with all my readers.
Warning: Long Post.
The legend of King Mahabali is the most popular and the most fascinating of all legends behind Onam. Onam celebrates the visit of King Mahabali to the state of Kerala every year. The festival is celebrated with fervour as King Mahabali is greatly respected by his subjects. King Mahabali is also popularly called Maveli and Onathappan.
Reign of King Mahabali
The story goes that the beautiful state of Kerala was once ruled by an Asura (demon) king, Mahabali. The King was greatly respected in his kingdom and was considered to be wise, judicious and extremely generous. It is said that Kerala witnessed its golden era in the reign of King Mahabali. Everybody was happy in the kingdom, there was no discrimination on the basis of caste or class. Rich and poor were equally treated. There was neither crime, nor corruption. People did not even lock their doors, as there were no thieves in that kingdom. There was no poverty, sorrow or disease in the reign of King Mahabali and everybody was happy and content.
Challenge for Gods
Looking at the growing popularity and fame of King Mahabali Gods became extremely concerned and jealous. They felt threatened about their own supremacy and began to think of a strategy to get rid of the dilemma.
To curb the growing reign of Mahabali and maintain their own supremacy, Aditi, the mother of Gods seeked help of Lord Vishnu (the preserver in the Hindu trinity) whom Mahabali worshiped.
It was said Mahabali was very generous and charitable. Whenever anybody approached him for help or requested for anything he always granted. To test the King, Lord Vishnu disguised himself as a dwarf and a poor Brahmin called Vamana. He came to the Kingdom of Mahabali, just after Mahabali performed his morning prayers and was preparing to grant boons to Brahmins.
Lord Vishnu takes Vamana Avatar
Disguised as Vamana, Vishnu said he was a poor Brahmin and asked for a piece of land. The generous King said, he could have as much land as he wanted. The Brahmin said that he just wanted as much land as could be covered by his three steps. The King was surprised to hear but agreed.
A learned adviser of the King, Shukracharya sensed that Vamana was not an ordinary person and warned the King against making the promise. But, the generous King replied that it would be a sin for a King to back on his words and asked the Brahmin to take the land. The King could not imagine that the dwarf Brahmin was Lord Vishnu himself.
Just as King Mahabali agreed to grant the land, Vamana began to expand and eventually increased himself to the size of cosmic proportions. With his first step the Brahmin boy covered the whole of earth and with the other step he covered the whole of the skies. He then asked King Mahabali where is the space for him to keep his third foot.
The King realised that he was no ordinary Brahmin and his third step will destroy the earth. Mahabali with folded hands bowed before Vamana and asked him to place his last step on his head so that he could keep the promise. The Brahmin placed his foot on the head of the King, which pushed him to patala, the nether world. There the King requested the Brahmin to reveal his true identity. Lord Vishnu then appeared before the King in his person. The Lord told the King that he came to test him and the King won the test. King Mahabali was pleased to see his lord. Lord Vishnu also granted a boon to the King.
King Mahabali Requests for a Visit to Kerala
The King was so much attached with his Kingdom and people that he requested that he be allowed to visit Kerala once in a year. Lord Vishnu was moved by the Kings nobility and was pleased to grant the wish. He also blessed the King and said even after losing all his worldly possessions, the King would always be loved by Lord Vishnu and his people.
Genesis of Onam
It is the day of the visit of King Mahabali to Kerala that is celebrated as Onam every year. The festival is celebrated as a tribute to the sacrifice of King Mahabali. Every year people make elaborate preparations to welcome their King whom they affectionately call Onathappan. They wish to please the spirit of their King by depicting that his people are happy and wish him well. The second day, Thiruvonam is the biggest and the most important day of this festival. It is believed that King Mahabali visits his people on the second day.
Onam celebrations are marked in Trikkakara, a place 10 km from Kochi (Cochin) on the Edapally- Pookattupadi road. Trikkakara is said to be the capital of the mighty King Mahabali. A temple with a deity of ’Trikkakara Appan’ or ’Vamanamurthy’ who is Lord Vishnu himself in disguise is also located at this place. Nowhere else in Kerala can one find a deity of ‘Vamanamurthy’. This fascinating legend is artistically depicted at the Suchindram Temple in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.
Ten days of Onam
Onam festivities commence on Atham, ten days prior to Thiruvonam. Hence Atham is regarded as holy and auspicious by Keralites. Chithira marks the second day of celebrations; not many rituals are performed on this day but people do offer their prayers to evoke the divine blessings.
A major attraction of Anizham, the fifth day is the grand Snake boat race event called Vallamkali. This hugely popular competition is held on river Pamba at Aranmulla. A multitude of domestic and international tourists come to witness the colorful spectacle. On Triketa and Moolam, the sixth and seventh days, cultural programmes and social gatherings are organized by various malayali associations around the world. On Pooradam, the devotees create clay idols called Mathevar. As the idol is created on the day of Pooradam, it is also called Poorada Uttigal. Each Mathevar is decorated with flowers. On the ninth day – Uthradam, the tenants and dependents of large traditional joint families bring the produce of their farms or the product of their toil to the Karanavar (eldest member of the Tarawad). These gifts from the tenants to the Karanvar are called Onakazhcha. Karanvar greets these people warmly and treats them to a sumptuous spread on Thiruvonam.

Padre Pio, a humble Capuchin priest from San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy , was blessed by God in many wonderful and mysterious ways. The most dramatic was the stigmata. Padre Pio bore the wounds of Christ for fifty years!
Among his other gifts were perfume, bilocation, prophecy, conversion, reading of souls, and miraculous cures. People are still being cured through his intercession in ways that cannot be explained by medicine or science. More important, if less spectacular, are the spiritual healings that take place in all parts of the world! Padre Pio is a powerful intercessor!!
To see him resting so peacefully it’s hard to believe that he died 40 years ago!

Update: The Pictures are fixed now.
