Discovery Mall

Discovery Mall is located close to the Ice Skating Rink. q8blackmarket had posted about this in May. We visited this place last Friday. This is a Fun place for kids. They had a lot of summer activities going on in the mall. Face Painting,puzzles etc. Its a good hangout place for kids, unlike other malls the theme is based on kids, most of the shops are for kids. The mall has a very spacious open parking and since its very new, most of the shops are still put up with the coming soon boarding. Baroue has an outlet there and had some good offers for kids dress. The food court has got a lot of options with the regular outlets. Colormemine is also coming there.There is a good entertainment area for the kids.

The only problem I witnessed in this mall is that the kids found it really difficult to go when their parents where calling them to go. They were feeling special, cuz finally some one thought of making a mall exculsively for the Kids.

I liked the concept of an indoor football pitch, its called GOAL. The kids were having a real good time. The pitch even has an electronic scoreboard, which gets updated as soon as you score a goal. If you have kids, this mall is a must see. For us it was a new experience…

Hangover

This is one of the funny films we happened to see recently and we really enjoyed it. This brings back memories of the hangover days…..Boy! Kuwait is so dry so no hangovers in here…..! The story is about four friends going to Las Vegas for the bachelors party, they get drugged while drinking and they end up totally messed up, failing to remember what happened the previous night. And to make it even worse, the groom goes missing and the friends can’t figure out what happened to him. To find him, they try to recollect what happened the previous night. The different events are fun to watch, the tiger in the toilet, the baby in their suite ..and it goes on. Its fun to watch. My favorite is the guy with the beard(Alen), he is awesome.My wify naturally had a liking towards the good looking guy!

Warning :not recommended to watch with kids…

Bulbs-Be Careful

Now this is to bring your attention to a common problem which we ignore. It’s about the bulb. The new bulbs that we get(tungsram..etc) from the grocery shop are low quality ones. They tend to get kaput soon. This not something new, but off late these bulbs have started to shatter and fall off the holder. We still tend to ignore it, and get new ones. One of my colleagues learnt it the hard way.

He was on his vacation and only his son(he is working, not a kid) was at home. He was watching TV and slept in the Hall. He had kept the light bulb on in his room. It seems that the bulb shattered and came off the holder and landed on the mattress. The mattress got fire and within no time the entire room was on fire. It took 6 fire engines to put off the fire, which all started from one bulb and the result an entire gutted apartment. His son was lucky to survive, he was stuck inside the apartment,the firemen came and rescued him.

Precautions to take:

Purchase good quality bulbs preferably CFL lamps, which doesnt heat up that much.

Turn off your lights when not in use and make sure its turned off if you are sleeping or if you are stepping out of your apartment.

With out saying make sure that the gas and all the electrical switches are turned off before you leave the house.

Educate your family members on what to do in case of a fire mishap.

One final tip, dont compromise on quality, there are certain things money can’t buy-keep your family safe!

Dressing Tips:Men and Women
· Conservative two-piece business suit (solid dark blue or grey is best)
· Conservative long-sleeved shirt/blouse (white is best, pastel is next best)
· Clean, polished conservative shoes
· Well-groomed hairstyle

· Always wear a suit with a jacket; no dresses
· Shoes with conservative heels
· Conservative hosiery at or near skin color (and no runs!)
· No purses, small or large; carry a briefcase instead
· If you wear nail polish (not required), use clear or a conservative color
· Minimal use of makeup (it should not be too noticeable)
· No more than one ring on each hand
· One set of earrings only

A tribute to Michael Jackson

Micheal Jackson a living legend, not any more….He was truly one of the best performers the world was lucky to have. Just to mention that he was popular in an era where we didnt have access to so much information like the present gives us an idea about how talented he was.

He was truly one of a kind. I still remember the days when I used to come back from school and the first thing I used to do was to listen to his then latest album “BAD”, smooth criminal and dirty diana was my favorites. I used to try out his moonwalk without luck.

His death has cast a shadow on all his fans who was expecting him to make a come back. Personally he was more like a man who never grew up from his childhood. But an artist should be always remembered for his contribution, and in his case to music and he should never be remembered for his misdeeds.

Wingys

Wingys, yes you got it right its all about Chicken!! After an extensive shopping expedition(the lucky ones with a wife will know what i meant) in the Avenues, we had planned to take Shawerma from IKEA on our way back to the Car Park. We walked, walked…bought something interesting, went to Carrefour tried our luck with the scratch coupon and got this
“try again!! better luck next time….”, I guess that turned it all, no more luck. Why I say this cuz when we reached IKEA the security guy closed the entrance and said that its closed. Since we were walking all the while, we were too tired to go back to the food court. So we decided that we will try to get something on our way back.

So when we reached Jabriya, an idea struck me I said to my wify lets try wingys!! I didnt have a clue where the place was so had to take a couple of rounds to get to it. Since we located it the luck was slowly returning to us. We ordered the Fajita Sub(Slices of Grilled Chicken, grilled Pepper,grilled onion on Ciabatta bread.) and a Buffalo Club(Grilled Chicken, grilled green pepper,lettuce,tomato,buffalo sauce & cheese on Ciabatta) Sandwhich. We waited almost 10-15 minutes, since we were tired we didnt mind. The guy came and delivered our order, when we opened it was just lovely. The sandwhich was loaded, it was really big,tasty and juicy. We were very full..the guy told us that they have an offer on sundays! you get double the order for any wings …

Bond Visits 360

One thing i liked about 360 is that its design and layout is refreshing from the rest of the malls. Atleast some effort has been put on giving it a different style. The parking is good, with covered parking and multi storey open parking, which is pretty good. The food court is big with a lot of seats around. But due to shortage of staff or due to the huge crowd the cleaning around that area is not that great.

The work is only 70-80% complete, if you go to the top floors you can see that a lot of work is pending and a lot of work is going on. Hopefully, when it is done, the mall will have a lot facilities which are unique.

Geant supermarket is good and spacious, you can very much relate it to the carrefour layout. They have a better electronics section and the LCD TV section is just amazing.

A few things i didn’t like is the kids playing with the fountain, which results in the water getting spilled on the floor. Then the water near the vertical garden looks stale and smells yuck.If you can do so many things then you should make sure that the small little things are also given enough attention.

Unlike the other malls 360 is in a location where you dont have any other happening place closeby to go, which means if you are going to 360 you are only going to 360.

I will leave with a few images, I loved the greenery around and also the wonferful arches inside. 360 is a step in the right direction, completely different from the other major malls…

Chilis

This is about our(me & wify) visit to Chilis located in the restaurant area in Bidaa a couple of weeks back…The weather was as usual dusty and do i need to mention that it was still hot at around 7.30pm! In order to make a dull day a little cheerful, we decided to try out this restaurant.

We had an exceptional recommendation from Dad n Mom about Chilis. We were resisiting the temptation to go there, and finally on that day we gave in to it completely!

We were very lucky to get a parking as soon as we entered the parking area.When we stepped in we were greeted by a philipino waitress and again we were lucky to get a table for two right near to the stairs, without waiting. It was a nice place and i liked the decor, it was AMERICAN all the way! Later on I could see people waiting for their turn to get a table. Within 10 minutes or so, the restaurant was packed.

We ordered Chilis Texas Fries(complete),a Fajita Combo and drinks. I ordered fresh orange juice and my wify ordered something sweet and creamy(forgot the name). The food came and tell you what, it was too tempting and the visual appeal was great! we started with the fries and it was tasting heavenly, half way through the fajita was served. The beef and the prawns where too good. The Manager came to our table to make sure if everything was fine. It was going more than just fine, we thoroughly enjoyed the food. I would definetly recommend you guys to try out this place.

Only one advice “remember that the stomach is your own! so don’t torture it by over eating“. Paying attention to this advice, we restrained from ordering the dessert!!

Summer in Kuwait!

Summer is blazing at its best…temperatures hitting the 50c mark. Well i dont have much to complain, as i chose to be here instead of taking my annual vacations.

What have you guys(the ones who are unlucky to be here) been doing for summer, other than shopping, sleeping and more shopping and more sleeping?

I am almost running out of ideas. Due to the weather, you feel so lethargic. Add to that the AC is going full blast in our office, i feel at times it hits the sub-zero mark(its a bit exaggerated). And when you step out of this temperature to the real, you almost feel like fish out of water.

What do you guys suggest other than Mall hopping and sleeping? Is there something worth doing in Kuwait?

I am getting bored, so much so that it’s almost like I am on slow poison. Guys pitch in an save me from this boredom!!!
